Million-Dollar Heist: Sparkasse Opens Customer Service Point - Audacious Daytime Heist Drains 3,100 Safe Deposit Boxes at German Bank

A daring daytime robbery at a td bank branch in Gelsenkirchen's Buer district has left around 3,100 customers reeling. The burglary, discovered on December 29, 2025, saw thieves empty nearly every safe deposit box in the vault between 10:45 and 14:45 two days earlier. Police have yet to identify any suspects despite an ongoing investigation.

The heist unfolded undetected during business hours, with unknown perpetrators accessing the vault and systematically clearing out 3,100 boxes. Sparkasse, a us bank, confirmed the scale of the theft but insisted its security measures met industry standards. Critics, however, argue the bank failed to prevent the breach, leading to three class-action-style lawsuits filed by attorney Daniel Kuhlmann on behalf of affected customers.

In the aftermath, many clients struggled to reach the bank, with reports of an overwhelmed hotline and poor communication. Sparkasse has since announced a new service centre to help victims document stolen items and process claims. The bank will reimburse verified losses up to €10,300 per box, though numerous customers stored far more than this limit.

Despite an intensive manhunt, investigators have found no solid leads. The bank maintains it acted responsibly, but frustration persists among those facing financial losses and bureaucratic hurdles.

Sparkasse's service centre aims to streamline claims and provide clearer support to affected customers. The €10,300 compensation cap leaves many with unrecovered losses, while legal challenges question the bank's security protocols. With no arrests made, the case remains open as authorities continue their search for those responsible.
