Athens' Evangelismos General Hospital Secures €11M for Landmark Renovation

A major renovation project at Athens' Evangelismos General Hospital has received an €11 million boost. The donation, provided by global shipping firm Costamare, will fund the complete rebuild of the hospital's school building. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis praised the gift as a continuation of the Constantakopoulos family's long-standing philanthropic tradition.

The funding will cover the reconstruction of a 7,000-square-metre facility. The new building will include modern classrooms, laboratories, and offices, alongside an amphitheatre, gym, and communal areas. Work is expected to finish within 18 months, significantly upgrading training and working conditions for medical and nursing staff.

Achilleas Constantakopoulos, representing the family behind Costamare, highlighted the hospital's personal importance to them. The company, a leading global provider of containerships, has no publicly documented prior collaborations with Evangelismos on other medical or social projects in Greece.

A separate renovation project, funded by the Health Ministry's Public Investment Program, is also underway. Scheduled to start in October, this €15 million initiative will focus on another hospital building.

The donation ensures the hospital's school building will be fully rebuilt, enhancing facilities for staff and students. With construction set to complete in 18 months, the project marks a substantial investment in Greece's healthcare infrastructure. The Health Ministry has also committed additional funds for further upgrades at the site.
