Police in Darmstadt have confiscated around 33,000 illegal fireworks during two separate raids. The operations targeted a 52-year-old man and a 19-year-old suspect, both linked to the unauthorised storage of explosives. The younger man was arrested after failing to provide a permit for the pyrotechnics.

On 22 December 2025, officers first raided the home of a 52-year-old man, seizing a large quantity of fireworks. The investigation then led them to a 19-year-old suspect, whose property contained a similar stash.

During the second raid, the teenager attempted to escape but was quickly captured on the premises. Beyond the fireworks, police discovered over €10,000 in cash, suspected fake designer goods, and roughly eight kilograms of cannabis. A precision scale and two knives were also found at the scene.

The 19-year-old could not show any legal documentation for possessing the fireworks. After questioning, he was released pending further investigation. Authorities are now examining how the fireworks were obtained and following up on additional leads.

The younger suspect faces charges under Germany’s Explosives Act. Police continue to investigate the source of the fireworks and other items seized. The case remains open as officers gather more evidence.
