Aon Strengthens Insolvency Team with Veteran Restructuring Expert Catherine Williamson
Aon has appointed Catherine Williamson as Growth and Technical Director for its UK Insolvency and Restructuring team. She brings 27 years of experience in corporate insolvency, having led major cases at AlixPartners for over a decade. The move aims to strengthen Aon's ability to support clients through restructuring and financial challenges.
Williamson joins Aon after 11 years at AlixPartners, where she served as a Partner and headed the insolvency team. During her time there, she managed over 20 high-profile cases, including Thomas Cook, Cineworld, Debenhams, and Arcadia Group brands like Topshop and Burton. Her expertise also covered Virgin Atlantic and Buzz Bingo, demonstrating her broad experience in complex insolvency scenarios.
At Aon, she will focus on helping clients navigate business disruption and restructuring. By combining the firm's Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities, she aims to improve risk management, resilience, and growth opportunities. Williamson has already praised Aon's team culture and client-first approach, emphasising her eagerness to contribute to their track record of success.
Aon's UK Insolvency and Restructuring team has expanded by nearly 25% in a market that saw just 1.5% growth last year. Mark Sanderson, Managing Director of the division, highlighted Williamson's technical skills, energy, and leadership as key assets. Her appointment is part of Aon's strategy to maintain its strong growth despite a relatively stagnant insolvency sector.
Williamson's role will centre on delivering tailored solutions for businesses facing financial difficulties. Her arrival reinforces Aon's commitment to building long-term client relationships through a collaborative approach. The firm expects her experience and strategic focus to further enhance its position in the restructuring market.
