Unannounced Protest Action Against AfD Information Booth in Kirchhain - Anti-fascist protesters clash with police at AfD campaign stand in Kirchhain

A small but tense protest unfolded in Kirchhain on Monday morning after around 25 to 30 demonstrators gathered near an AfD campaign stand. The unregistered demonstration, described by participants as 'anti-fascist,' led to police intervention when protesters refused to move despite instructions to do so. The protest began early as demonstrators surrounded the AfD stand with banners. They ignored repeated police orders to relocate, prompting officers to step in. Kirchhain's mayor, Olaf Hausmann of the SPD, arrived at the scene, but no protest organiser came forward to identify themselves. Police eventually removed two individuals from the group. After this, the remaining protesters complied and left the area without further incident. Authorities later confirmed that participants now face administrative proceedings for breaching Hesse's assembly law. The AfD in Hessen has been ramping up its campaign ahead of the March 2026 communal elections. The party is setting up information stands, distributing flyers, and recruiting candidates across the region. In places like FΓΌrth, the AfD is fielding candidates for the first time, including a former SPD member as its top candidate. The protest in Kirchhain ended with police dispersing the crowd and launching legal action against those involved. The AfD's campaign efforts continue across Hessen, with the party pushing to secure mandates in next year's local elections.
