Anno 117: Pax Romana Shines with Stunning Ray Tracing and Smooth Performance

Ubisoft's latest strategy game, Anno 117: Pax Romana, has made a strong debut on PC. The title impresses with its graphics, thanks to advanced ray tracing techniques, and offers a smooth gaming experience.

Anno 117: Pax Romana stands out with its use of hardware-accelerated ray tracing for global illumination. This feature, which significantly enhances graphics, is exceptionally well supported by AMD Radeon GPUs, showing almost no performance loss with high RT settings. Nvidia GeForce cards also support it well, but with a slightly higher performance cost (around 1–7% depending on the model).

In terms of general performance, AMD and Nvidia graphics cards perform comparably, with neither manufacturer gaining a clear edge. The CPU bottleneck, a common issue in previous Anno titles, has been largely overcome in this release. Additionally, frame generation, a driver-based alternative, can be used to improve performance in strategy games like Anno 117.

The game's upscaling features, DLSS 4 and FSR 4, offer superior quality compared to their predecessors, often looking better than native resolution. Ray-traced reflections, though not particularly convincing, can be enabled for enhanced lighting effects. Overall, the PC version of Anno 117: Pax Romana runs smoothly with solid frame pacing and minimal crashes.

Anno 117: Pax Romana's PC version is a technical success, thanks to its impressive visual quality and advanced ray tracing techniques. Both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards perform well, and the game offers a smooth, stable gaming experience.
