Amazon Significantly Increases Seasonal Staff - Amazon hires 12,000 seasonal workers in Germany for holiday rush
Amazon has hired 12,000 seasonal workers in Germany for the busy pre-Christmas period. This marks a rise of 3,000 compared to last year, reflecting higher demand ahead of the holidays. The new recruits will mainly support logistics hubs, handling tasks like sorting parcels. Unlike delivery drivers, who work as independent contractors, these roles are directly employed by the company. Recruitment for the seasonal positions began in October and November. Contracts will run until the end of December, slightly shorter than DHL’s seasonal hires, who often stay on until January to manage post-holiday returns. Amazon’s expansion comes as the company strengthens its delivery network in Germany. Over the past decade, it has built its own logistics service, delivering around five billion parcels nationwide. The Federal Network Agency ranks it as the country’s second-largest parcel carrier, handling 15 to 25 percent of all deliveries. The company already employs roughly 40,000 permanent staff in Germany. The increased need for seasonal workers follows the opening of new facilities, boosting capacity ahead of peak shopping periods. Amazon also dominates online retail in the country, holding over 60 percent of the market, far ahead of competitors like Otto. The seasonal hires will focus on sorting and processing orders in warehouses. Their contracts end in late December, while Amazon’s permanent workforce remains stable at 40,000. The move highlights the company’s growing logistics operations as it prepares for another record-breaking holiday season.
