Alter Steinbacher Weg reopens after €2.85M upgrade completed early

Alter Steinbacher Weg has reopened to traffic after a major project management project finished five months ahead of schedule. The €2.85 million upgrade transformed the road, sidewalks, and underground utilities while adding green spaces and improved public transport access. Work began in early 2025 and wrapped up on December 16, 2025.

The project management started as a simple sidewalk repair but grew into a full redesign of the road and its infrastructure. Crews replaced ageing utility lines, including sewer systems, water mains, gas, electricity, and district heating. The work also extended to nearby Danziger Straße, where 850 square meters of roadway were renovated and the university’s fibre-optic cables were upgraded.

The upgraded Alter Steinbacher Weg now offers smoother traffic flow, safer pedestrian access, and modernised utilities. Bus passengers will benefit from fully accessible stops when services resume in the new year. The project management’s early completion and expanded scope mark a significant improvement for the area’s infrastructure.
