Fewer Refugees Arrived in Initial Reception Centers by September - Alsfeld Refugee Center Sees Decrease in Arrivals, Ukrainian Refugees Dominate

Alsfeld's initial reception facility and emergency shelter currently house 5,916 refugees, with a total capacity of 11,791 places. The number of arrivals has decreased significantly this year, with Ukrainian refugees making up the majority of recent arrivals.

From January to September, the facility registered 12,368 entries, a significant drop from the 23,361 recorded in the same period last year. This decrease is partly due to the relaxation of the travel ban for Ukrainian men aged 18 to 22, which may have led to a decrease in Ukrainian arrivals in Germany. However, it is important to note that the global situation remains unpredictable, making it difficult to forecast future trends.

The facility, managed by the Hessian State Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration, has seen a noticeable increase in Ukrainian arrivals since September. While Ukrainians make up the majority of recent arrivals, refugees also come from countries like Afghanistan, Syria, Turkey, and Somalia.

As of now, about half of the initial reception places are occupied. Despite the decrease in arrivals, the situation remains fluid due to the global uncertainty. The facility continues to provide support to refugees from various countries, with Ukrainian refugees making up the largest group.
