Admiral Group sells Elephant Insurance to J.C. Flowers in strategic US deal

Admiral Group has sold its US motor insurance division, Elephant Insurance, to J.C. Flowers & Co. The deal, finalised in April 2025, marks a shift in ownership for the Virginia-based car insurance provider. Both companies have highlighted the potential for growth under the new arrangement.

The sale was completed for an undisclosed cash sum, reported to match Elephant’s net asset value. Admiral Group, which previously owned the business, confirmed the transaction without revealing financial specifics.

Elephant Insurance specialises in straightforward and affordable car insurance across the US. Its digital platform helps customers select coverage tailored to their needs and budget. This approach has positioned the company as a competitive player in the American car insurance market. Alberto Schiavon, Elephant’s CEO, welcomed the partnership with J.C. Flowers. He emphasised that the deal would preserve the company’s customer-focused culture while leveraging the investor’s industry experience. Eric Rahe, Managing Director at J.C. Flowers, agreed, noting that Elephant is ready to expand its presence in the US car insurance sector. Costantino Moretti, Admiral’s Head of International Insurance, described the sale as a positive step for Elephant’s future. He suggested that J.C. Flowers’ backing would support the business’s development in a crowded car insurance sector.

The transaction transfers full ownership of Elephant Insurance to J.C. Flowers. The new partnership aims to build on the company’s existing platform and customer service model. No further details about operational changes have been announced.
