ABO Energy wins three new German solar projects amid bond restructuring talks
ABO Energy has secured three new solar projects in Germany, adding 50 megawatts to its growing portfolio. The company also seeks to adjust its bond terms after a recent vote fell short of the required turnout. A key meeting with creditors is now scheduled for early March to finalise these changes.
The latest wins came in the Bundesnetzagentur's most recent auction, where ABO Energy was awarded contracts for solar farms in Schlangenbad, Ober-Olm, and Schieder-Schwalenberg. Construction on these sites will begin in autumn 2026, with battery storage systems planned for addition in 2027. This success brings the firm's total capacity from 2025 tenders to 107 megawatts across eight projects.
The company had previously attempted to modify its bond terms, securing majority support but failing to meet the 50% quorum needed. To move forward, a second vote will now take place in Wiesbaden on March 9, with the threshold lowered to 25%. Among the proposed changes are the removal of a 'negative pledge' and a temporary suspension of certain creditor termination rights until the end of May.
With three successful tender rounds in 2025, ABO Energy continues to expand its solar capacity across multiple German states. The upcoming creditors' meeting will determine whether the bond amendments proceed, potentially easing financial constraints as the company pushes ahead with its renewable energy projects.
