The Main Customs Office Aachen is currently investigating several local taxi and rental car service providers in the city. The probe centres around suspected underpayment of wages and improper social security contributions.
The investigation, which began on May 15, 2025, has so far revealed that some drivers may not be receiving the statutory minimum wage. Out of 21 drivers questioned, 12 were suspected of not being paid the required amount. Additionally, two drivers were found to be operating with expired passenger transport permits.
The affected companies' business records are being scrutinised by the Main Customs Office. If the suspicions are confirmed, they could face substantial fines.
