How the A1 expansion in the Eifel region is progressing - A1 motorway expansion in Eifel secures key construction approval
The latest approval follows a final decision by the Federal Administrative Court, clearing the way for work to begin. This section is part of a larger effort to close a 25-kilometre gap in the A1, running from Kelberg in Rhineland-Palatinate to Blankenheim in North Rhine-Westphalia.
However, two further segments—Adenau to Lommersdorf and Lommersdorf to Blankenheim—still lack formal planning approval. The technical supervisory authority has yet to grant the necessary permissions for these parts of the project.
Schnieder has now outlined the next steps for construction, aiming to push the long-awaited motorway extension forward. Despite progress, the remaining approvals will determine when the full route can be completed.
With construction approval secured for the Kelberg-Adenau section, work is set to start on this part of the A1. The remaining gaps depend on pending planning decisions. Once finished, the motorway will provide a continuous route through the Eifel region.
