A bright orange bench in Marburg sparks conversations on domestic violence

An orange bench has appeared outside the main county administration building in Marburg. Installed on November 25, 2025, it marks the start of the UN’s Orange the World campaign against domestic violence towards women and girls. The striking colour and central location invite people to sit, reflect, and discuss the issue. The bench was unveiled by the Municipal Women’s and Equality Office of Marburg-Biedenkopf, working alongside the Zonta Club Marburg. Its placement coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, kicking off 16 days of global activism. The bright orange hue symbolises both a pause for remembrance and a call to shared responsibility. The bench will remain in place throughout the Orange the World campaign, which runs until December 10. Its presence serves as a daily reminder of the ongoing fight against domestic violence towards women and girls. Visitors can engage with the installation or seek help through the listed support services.
