85-Year-Old Driver's Gas Pedal Mishap Causes €60k Frankfurt Crash
Yesterday afternoon, a significant traffic accident occurred in Frankfurt's Untermainanlage, stretching over 100 metres. Despite the extensive damage, all parties involved escaped unharmed.
The incident began when an 85-year-old driver of a Mercedes C-Class attempted to turn left onto Hofstraße. Unfortunately, his foot became trapped on the gas pedal, causing him to accelerate straight ahead instead. The car ploughed through several sidewalk bollards and a traffic light before coming to a halt in the green area.
The Mercedes C-Class's erratic path led to a chain reaction. It collided with a Ford Focus driven by a 39-year-old, causing the Focus to spin and strike a Mercedes E-Class, driven by a 51-year-old. The traffic accident investigation lasted until 18:45, with no explicit mention of the overall police president or chief, though Ralf Lauter was named as the head of the traffic education department.
The accident resulted in approximately €60,000 worth of property damage but, remarkably, no injuries were reported. The cause of the accident was attributed to the 85-year-old driver's foot becoming stuck on the gas pedal.
