1960s Apartment Blocks Get a Climate-Neutral Makeover by 2030

A major housing project in Kirchheim unter Teck is set to transform eight 1960s apartment blocks into a climate-neutral neighbourhood. The 'Badwiesen 2030' initiative, led by Kreisbaugenossenschaft Kirchheim-Plochingen eG, will carry out serial retrofitting, vertical extensions, and infill development over the next decade. Professionals now have the chance to see the work up close during an upcoming 'Energiesprong on Tour' event.

The 'Badwiesen 2030' project aims to modernise ageing housing stock while creating a sustainable community. Over ten years, the eight multi-family buildings will undergo comprehensive upgrades, including energy-efficient retrofits and structural expansions. The goal is to achieve full climate neutrality for the neighbourhood.

The 'Energiesprong on Tour: Kirchheim unter Teck' event offers participants a firsthand look at the retrofitting process. Attendees will tour the site, engage in discussions about best practices, and share lessons with project stakeholders. The day also includes a light breakfast, lunch, and networking opportunities. A closing session will focus on partnerships, roles, and future perspectives for similar projects. The format encourages collaboration among professionals interested in sustainable housing solutions.

The project demonstrates how older buildings can be transformed into energy-efficient, climate-neutral homes. By 2030, the eight apartment blocks will serve as a model for cooperative, sustainable living. The event provides a platform for industry experts to explore and adopt similar approaches elsewhere.
