150 meters of railway safety fencing stolen in bold overnight heist

A 150-metre stretch of construction safety fencing has been stolen along the railway line between Fulda and Bebra. The theft occurred sometime between Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning. Authorities estimate the damage at around €26,500.

The fencing disappeared from a site near the village of Rautenhausen between 4:45 p.m. on February 25 and 9:10 a.m. on February 27. The Federal Police Inspectorate in Kassel has opened an investigation into the incident.

Criminal proceedings for theft have now been launched. Deutsche Bahn has repeatedly reported issues with infrastructure theft and vandalism in recent years, though specific data on fence thefts remains limited. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the police on +49 561 816 160.

The stolen fencing leaves a gap in safety measures along a busy rail route. Police continue to gather evidence as they work to identify those responsible. The investigation remains ongoing.
