145 Million Euros for Wiesbaden: Infrastructure Gets Boost

Wiesbaden has secured €144.6 million from Germany’s federal infrastructure fund. The money will support local projects aimed at improving schools, roads, and public spaces. Officials say the funds can be used immediately, with no delays expected for planning or construction.

The Hessian state government announced the allocation as part of a broader €7.4 billion package for the region. Of this total, 63% will go directly to cities and towns, giving them control over spending priorities. Prof. Dr. R. Alexander Lorz, Hesse’s finance minister, stressed that local leaders know best where investments are needed.

The funding targets key areas like education, digital networks, and emergency services. It also aims to upgrade sports facilities and revitalise public spaces. One major project in Wiesbaden will focus on the Maaraue floodplain in Kostheim, which requires renovation and better recreational facilities. While the Hessian Infrastructure Promotion Act still needs final approval from the state parliament, this is not expected to hold up progress. Lawmakers are set to vote on the legislation in March 2026, but Wiesbaden can begin work on approved projects straight away.

The €144.6 million injection will help Wiesbaden improve municipal services and public infrastructure. Projects like the Maaraue floodplain renovation are already in the pipeline. With funds available now, the city can start work without waiting for further approvals.
